Saturday, 31 December 2016

Here's my final post of 2016 guys, it's new Year's Eve. I'm ignoring exam prep to procrastinate by writing this, I have exams in the first and second week of January. Anyway as far as I'm concerned 2017 doesn't really start until February because January doesn't really count as a month does it? :p

As far as blogging goes 2016 was exciting for me, this is the year I started blogging more regularly and seriously. I plucked up the courage and started making YouTube videos. It may sound sad to some of you, but I think the best thing that happened was that I discovered kdrama XD.

2016 Reflections:

  1. Started blogging regulary.
  2. Hit 1k on Bloglovin'.
  3. Discovered Kdrama.
  4. Plucked up the courage to make YouTube videos.
  5. Learnt a lot more about photography.
  6. Wrote & directed my first on-location production.

2017 Bring It On:

  1. I love Victoria form InTheFrow's post about more general achievable goals: The 5 Achievable New Year's Resolutions.
  2. Be more positive & grateful.
  3. Survive the coming semester.
  4. Spend more time being creative.
  5. Blog more. My goal for this blog is just to blog more and create better content.
  6. Read more.
  7. Eat healthier.. eh I always have this though..
  8. Stress less / make plans, but also take things as they come.

What are some of your blogging or creative goals for 2017?
Oh and Happy new year! I hope 2017 is filled with wonderful things for you!

Grey Layers

Saturday, 17 December 2016

The Look: This look I managed to shoot quickly on a flying trip home a few weeks ago, but I haven't had time to put it up! I love this coat and giant checked grey scarf. The small quilted bag is from urban outfitters and I like the subtle white sheen on these converse, makes them more interesting and adds a bit of a sports luxe vibe.

The Study: It's been one long semester! Can't wait to chill Christmas week, but gotta get in a bit of exam study first, I have exams right after the holiday :/

The Blog: There are now 1000 of you following me on Bloglovin'! I actually can't believe it, it's such a lovely way to end 2016. I wish I had more time to produce content but I'm happy that I'm learning things that are hopefully gonna help me create better content in the coming year.

Happy Holidays!

H y g g e | Cosy Cocooning

sadiya hearts | promotion

I recently came across the trend of hyyge. It's a Danish concept, which put most simply, is all about really appreciating and enjoying the little things in winter, it does mean and include more than just that though. The clocks have gone back and I’m still adjusting to it being dark so early, but seeing as how winter is truly upon us, I’m sharing some of the little things I do love and appreciate about winter, inspired by the concept of hygge.

 1. The art of building sanctuary and community, of inviting closeness and paying attention to what makes us feel open hearted and alive; 2. to create well-being, connection and warmth; 3. a feeling of belonging to the moment and to each other; 4. celebrating the everyday.

The definitions I've listed above I found on Pinterest, but effectively though, the hygge trend means celebrating winter and winter cosiness is now kinda cool XD. So clean up your place, make it super cosy, and appreciate snuggling down inside during the cold dark evenings. If cleaning isn’t really your thing, get the peeps at Handy.com to sort it and focus on appreciating the little things.

Here are some of the little things I love about winter, with a nod to how they fit in with the concept of hygge.

Hot Drinks (extra appreciation)
If you know me, you know I share my strong appreciation for hot beverages all year round, but you know you have extra appreciation for hot drinks during the winter. I'll have a giant mug of hot chocolate please!

Hygge means anything that makes your indoor space feel cosier should be embraced.
Winter means you can wear super comfy outfits and as long as you love your outerwear you don’t need to worry too much.
Spending more time indoors means you’ve more reason to have your interior looking good. A new throw for your couch? Go for it.
Connect With Nature
While what really appeals to me about hygge is the appreciation for creating a cosy space indoors, connecting with nature and feeling grounded is also part of the whole idea, so embrace woodland walking in the cold while wrapped up warm.
Soup & Hotpots
Comfort food for when you come in from the cold! Hygge means appreciating good wholesome food.
Loungewear, Socks and Sweaters
Embrace hygge in your style, sweater weather is where it's at, you wanna be super comfy when your cocooned up inside – ditch the worn out PJs and get yourself  some comfy loungewear, cashmere is the cosiest thing ever.
Domesticize Yo’self
Whether it’s baking or knitting, hyyge is about embracing those indoor activities that make you feel content!
Unplug From Tech
I love my Netflix  but embracing hyyge means ditching telly & tech and spending quality time actually conversing with the people you care about.

Here are some books on hygge if you want to learn more about what it's all about, or maybe gift to someone who loves the little things. Happy hygge!

The Burgundy Coat

Thursday, 3 November 2016

Here’s another style post I’ve been sitting on for a while, I’m saying hello to November with another statement winter coat. I really love nice outerwear pieces, you can be wearing a simple outfit and throw a cool outerwear piece on and look really put together.  I think the shape of this is really grown up but is a little oversized on me, I love the berry / burgundy colour of it though. I paired it with a Chanel inspired bag from Stradivarius, and these Rieker boots, which are super comfy and warm.

The Grey Coat

Thursday, 27 October 2016

With this style story I think  I have to accept that winter is finally here, it's been really cold in the mornings the past week, brr. Autumn has really left us it seems, the only thing good about it is the gorgeous outerwear pieces you get to wear. I love the cut of this grey coat I think it's a really neutral and classic piece. It's actually from Awear, which no longer exists, so this coat has been around a long time now. I kept everything else in this look neutral so as to let the classic shape take centre stage. I'm pretty obsessed with this minimal backpack I think the strap design is really unique too.

Winterproof Your Skin

Thursday, 20 October 2016

sadiya hearts | p r o m o t i o n

I dunno where you are, (leave me a comment & tell me!) but here in Ireland the we're definitely headed into winter. I'm jealous of people who are just getting autumn/fall now.. anyway I thought I'd share a few of my tips for winterproofing your skin now we're almost in winter's freezing grasp

1. Drink plenty of H20.
Duh right? You should be doing this all year round to keep your skin in it's best condition, but when it's freezing out you can try some different warming herbal teas. Caffeine free drinks are better when you're trying to stay hydrated. (Says the caffeine monster :p) My love of caffeine means I'm probably always lacking a little in proper hydration.

2. Moisturise Mask All Day.
Slap on plenty of your favourite moisturiser to keep skin hydrated and protected from the harsh weather. Bear in mind central heating dries out the air, which doesn't help your skin glow either, so apply a protective balm or moisture mask regularly too. I really loved this protective face salve from Bathing Beauty or a hydrating sheet mask works really well too.

3. Protect Your Pout.
Chapped lips are something that I unfortunately get at some point every winter, freezing cold weather is particularly harsh on the delicate skin on our lips. Keep yours hydrated and protected by wearing plenty of lip balm. This pretty summer fruit one from EOS is certified organic. It's summer flavour is a little throwback to warmer weather and the bright coloured packaging will brighten up your dark winter days too. Find the Summer Fruit style on Target.

4. Use Sunscreen.
I'm terrible at doing this, and it may sound ridiculous, but even though it's really cold out, and the sun may not be particularly visible, your skin still needs to be protected from harmful rays. Try using products that contain a built-in SPF.

5. Make The Most of Sweater Weather.
It's sweater, scarf, hat and glove weather right? For really soft hands and feet, apply some organic coconut oil or your favourite lotion and pop on a pair of cosy socks or gloves for a few hours or overnight. When you take them off you'll find your mitts are super soft!

Black & Gold

Thursday, 13 October 2016

I put this look together for my friends birthday dinner last weekend, if you follow me on snapchat (@sadiyahearts) you'll have already had a peek at this. Casual but also a little bit of smart/glam was what I was going for. I paired this pleated Zara skirt which is really comfy, but still quite smart, and this silky subtle gold top with pattern details on the front. It works well with the gold hardware details on the jacket. You can see I'm in the city from the slightly grittier backdrop here.. shooting this was a little more awkward than usual, grey shutters were the most neutralish backdrop I could get at that moment.. aside from the graffiti they do fit with my blog theme of grey! XD
