sadiya hearts | promotion

I recently came across the trend of hyyge. It's a Danish concept, which put most simply, is all about really appreciating and enjoying the little things in winter, it does mean and include more than just that though. The clocks have gone back and I’m still adjusting to it being dark so early, but seeing as how winter is truly upon us, I’m sharing some of the little things I do love and appreciate about winter, inspired by the concept of hygge.

___________________

HYGGE

 1. The art of building sanctuary and community, of inviting closeness and paying attention to what makes us feel open hearted and alive; 2. to create well-being, connection and warmth; 3. a feeling of belonging to the moment and to each other; 4. celebrating the everyday.

____________________

The definitions I've listed above I found on Pinterest, but effectively though, the hygge trend means celebrating winter and winter cosiness is now kinda cool XD. So clean up your place, make it super cosy, and appreciate snuggling down inside during the cold dark evenings. If cleaning isn’t really your thing, get the peeps at Handy.com to sort it and focus on appreciating the little things.

Here are some of the little things I love about winter, with a nod to how they fit in with the concept of hygge.

Hot Drinks (extra appreciation)
If you know me, you know I share my strong appreciation for hot beverages all year round, but you know you have extra appreciation for hot drinks during the winter. I'll have a giant mug of hot chocolate please!

Candles
Hygge means anything that makes your indoor space feel cosier should be embraced.
Outerwear
Winter means you can wear super comfy outfits and as long as you love your outerwear you don’t need to worry too much.
Homeware
Spending more time indoors means you’ve more reason to have your interior looking good. A new throw for your couch? Go for it.
Connect With Nature
While what really appeals to me about hygge is the appreciation for creating a cosy space indoors, connecting with nature and feeling grounded is also part of the whole idea, so embrace woodland walking in the cold while wrapped up warm.
Soup & Hotpots
Comfort food for when you come in from the cold! Hygge means appreciating good wholesome food.
Loungewear, Socks and Sweaters
Embrace hygge in your style, sweater weather is where it's at, you wanna be super comfy when your cocooned up inside – ditch the worn out PJs and get yourself  some comfy loungewear, cashmere is the cosiest thing ever.
Domesticize Yo’self
Whether it’s baking or knitting, hyyge is about embracing those indoor activities that make you feel content!
Unplug From Tech
I love my Netflix  but embracing hyyge means ditching telly & tech and spending quality time actually conversing with the people you care about.

Here are some books on hygge if you want to learn more about what it's all about, or maybe gift to someone who loves the little things. Happy hygge!

Winterproof Your Skin

Thursday, 20 October 2016

sadiya hearts | p r o m o t i o n

I dunno where you are, (leave me a comment & tell me!) but here in Ireland the we're definitely headed into winter. I'm jealous of people who are just getting autumn/fall now.. anyway I thought I'd share a few of my tips for winterproofing your skin now we're almost in winter's freezing grasp

1. Drink plenty of H20.
Duh right? You should be doing this all year round to keep your skin in it's best condition, but when it's freezing out you can try some different warming herbal teas. Caffeine free drinks are better when you're trying to stay hydrated. (Says the caffeine monster :p) My love of caffeine means I'm probably always lacking a little in proper hydration.

2. Moisturise Mask All Day.
Slap on plenty of your favourite moisturiser to keep skin hydrated and protected from the harsh weather. Bear in mind central heating dries out the air, which doesn't help your skin glow either, so apply a protective balm or moisture mask regularly too. I really loved this protective face salve from Bathing Beauty or a hydrating sheet mask works really well too.

3. Protect Your Pout.
Chapped lips are something that I unfortunately get at some point every winter, freezing cold weather is particularly harsh on the delicate skin on our lips. Keep yours hydrated and protected by wearing plenty of lip balm. This pretty summer fruit one from EOS is certified organic. It's summer flavour is a little throwback to warmer weather and the bright coloured packaging will brighten up your dark winter days too. Find the Summer Fruit style on Target.

4. Use Sunscreen.
I'm terrible at doing this, and it may sound ridiculous, but even though it's really cold out, and the sun may not be particularly visible, your skin still needs to be protected from harmful rays. Try using products that contain a built-in SPF.

5. Make The Most of Sweater Weather.
It's sweater, scarf, hat and glove weather right? For really soft hands and feet, apply some organic coconut oil or your favourite lotion and pop on a pair of cosy socks or gloves for a few hours or overnight. When you take them off you'll find your mitts are super soft!

Autumn/Fall Essentials | A/W Wishlist

Wednesday, 14 September 2016

1.  Throw: Foxford Woolen Mills
A cosy throw is definitely one of the most important A/W essentials. I love this houndstooth print one from Foxford Woolen Mills.

2.  Roll Neck Jumper: Reiss @ Opsh
They don't call it sweater weather for nothing y'know, you need a chunky roll up jumper to keep yourself snug.

3.  Cashmere Socks: Asos
If my budget allowed, I'm pretty sure half my wardrobe would consist of cashmere pieces.. these gorgeous cashmere knee-high grey socks I can only drool over but cosy socks are definitely an essential.

4.  Coat: Asos
When it gets really cold here, you really need to leave the house practically wrapped in a sleeping bag style coat to keep the cold out :p, but this grey duffle coat is a lovely piece.

5. Clipper Super Cosy Drinking Chocolate: Evergreen
Copious amounts of hot chocolate are definitely one of my A/W essentials. I really wanna try this one from Clipper.

6.   Harmony Blend Candle: Emmas
Scented candles may be one of the best things about autumn, they're always nice when it's starting to get dark out early.

7.   Boots: Schuh
Super warm stompy boots are one of my essentials, freezing toes are no joke y'know XD I think these black Timberlands are a cool classic.

8.   Pumpkin Spice Hand Repair Cream: Evergreen
This time of year, pumpkin spice anything is an absolutely necessary :p, I had to list these gorgeous hand cream when I saw it. Keep your mitts from getting cracked in the cold weather, and smelling amazing too.

9.   Enamel Mug: Urban Outfitters
A pretty mug to drink all that hot chocolate from, a must.

What are some of your autumn essentials?

Back To School

Monday, 12 September 2016

Lots of you will have already started back at school or college, but some of us have had the luxury of an extra couple of weeks but are only now facing the reality of being back in lectures very soon. I dunno about you but I love the freedom I have during the summer months, but quickly switching from that to a more structured daily routine is hard. I'm trying to encourage myself to get back into some kind of routine this week so a the early starts aren't such a shock to the system :p Here are a few things I hope to do to get back into things.

1. Fix Sleep Cycle
I've lost any sleep structure during the last few months and 9:00 am lectures on Monday morning are going to be a really awful unless I make a change. I'm gonna try and fix my sleep pattern so waking up early morning isn't complete torture XD If I start now it should make life easier come next week.

2. Set Goals
I'm sure we all have a few things we'd like to do better this semester, it might be something as small as doing a little better in one class, or improving your attendance. My goal is to try and stay on top of assignments, that is, not to leave things so late and have that last minute panic of trying to get things together.

3. Eat Right
I'm going to try and cut out crappy junk food I find myself reaching for and try to drink more herbal teas instead of tons of coffee, as much as I love it. Eating right means I can function much better and hopefully avoid a cold or flu that does the rounds this time of year.

4. Make The Most Of Commuting
Some of you may be lucky enough pretty close to your school or college, but if you're like me and you don't have the luxury of rolling out of bed 20 minutes before a lecture, put your longer travel time to use. Maybe read over your class notes or handouts you never look at, listen to podcasts or maybe even write up a blog post ;)

Have you any tips for starting back at college?
Wishing you all the best of luck with school or college this year, we can do it!

Also, Eid Mubarak to my huns that are celebrating today, have a lovely day!

How not to buy stuff you don't need just because you blog // Authetic Blogging

Monday, 18 July 2016

Coming up with blog content is challenging sometimes. Being authentic and blogging can be difficult. You may be feeling stuck or uninspired. You may feel like you should be doing things a certain way or writing certain types of posts. You might think "oh I'll just buy this thing I don't want or need" because if I buy it, I can write about it. Here are some of my thoughts on how to step away from buying things you don’t need, just because you blog.

 1. Seek Experiences Not Things // Do cool and interesting stuff.
I know how hard this can be, you may be strapped for cash, or live in a quiet area, where there isn't much to do. But get out of your comfort zone a little bit, even if it's as small as going for a walk, or just trying something new. The more things you do, outside of your regular routine, the more you have to inspire you when you’re creating content.

2. Learn.
The more knowledge you have, the more useful your content will be. Learn skills that will help you create better content, like how to take great photos, just experiment more with your camera. Read, and watch interesting things. Get out of your comfort zone, even if it’s just watching a documentary you wouldn’t normally be interested in or watching a different kind of film. A cool thing to do is read a news site from a different country. It’s cool to see a fresh and different perspective or just read stories you wouldn’t normally see covered in your local media. Entertaining your readers, or showing them how to do something they want to do (edit Instagram photos, for example.) will help you create content that is useful or helpful.

3. Think outside the box.
Be aware of the things that influence you so you can choose things consciously by yourself. Think about what influences you and why. Yes you want your content to look pretty and appealing, but polished "perfection" can be found on any commercial site or magazine. I think blogging can and should be more raw, fresh and relatable. You don't need an entire makeup counter to look good. The world revolves around making us believe that we're not good enough. That we're not okay, without all the products we’re supposed to buy. I'm not saying hey, don't like or buy the things you like. I'm just saying ask yourself why you want something.

 4. Use Your Reality // Be Yourself.
Use your raw reality to create content. In the super airbrushed, edited and filtered world, I feel that there is a serious lack of "hey, this is what my natural face looks like”. (I am as guilty of this as anyone) What you see on a person’s social media is their highlight reel. Don’t buy into the idea that what you’re seeing is their whole life and their whole reality. The perspective from which we're shown something, everything from the way a person writes, to the angle they took a picture from. Lighting, editing, everything that goes into creating something, paints a pretty picture. Look the picture, appreciate it, but know that it something that is often carefully constructed. Being authentic and providing value to your reader can set your blog apart. Everyone is different, you don't need to do what everyone else is doing just for the sake of it. Find and do the things you love yourself. Think about what you're passionate about, and channel that into creating your content. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by others, loving something they're doing and wanting to do it to. Just make it your own and do it because you want to. When you blog, you have complete creative control and you should use and revel in that. Basically, you are Anna Wintour and your blog is Vogue, (or the equivalent of this statement in whatever niche you blog about. :p) make it what you want!  Be creative and “do you boo”. In writing this post, I think I’ve realised that I really am all about inspirational, motivational self-improvement type stuff. I hope this post was helpful to you.

What are your thoughts?

Leave me a comment and let me know.

Much love,
Sadiya

Current Obsession | Minimalism

Monday, 11 July 2016

Hey guys, today I'm talking about something that I've really become a little bit obsessed with,

Recently I've realised how much I love it. I know the whole minimalism vibe is very popular at the moment.  Real minimalism has much more depth to it than just being a style or aesthetic. I would love to be a minimalist in a more real way, just getting rid of a lot of clutter and unnecessary stuff in my life, and just having the bare minimum, but that isn't totally practical for me. I think it probably takes a lot of time to get to that place. I guess the current definition of minimalism in my life is a visual & fashion style, rather than really the idea of living with less, but here are some thoughts and quotes about the idea of minimalism that make it so appealing.

                                            ----------------------------------------------

                                        ----------------------------------------------

Reasons To Love M I N I M A L I S M:

• Less Is More
Appreciating the little things and appreciating less is a wonderful thing. Having less means you appreciate what's actually there more. The more stuff you own, the more the stuff owns you.

• Simplicity
Minimalism to me is step towards simplicity and S I M P L I C I T Y  = an easier life, who doesn't like simplicity?

• Space To Think  | Mental P E A C E / C L A R I T Y
I feel like if there is less clutter in your life, your thinking might less cluttered, you'll be more centred mentally and can live your life with more intention. I think that minimalism in your life could help bring you clarity of mind. I say this because, personally, just being in an organised environment really helps me in be more focused and  productive.

--------------------------------------------------------------

• Be More Minimal In Your Life. (small steps)
Get rid of clutter. Physical clutter, like unnecessary objects in your environment, but also mental/emotional clutter. Unfollow accounts you follow that don't have a positive impact on you. Follow people that appreciate minimal vibes and inspire you in a positive way. Stop following accounts that make you feel negative or inadequate. Surround yourself with as much positivity as you can.
